Tiga means Three in Malay. Tiga Island derived its name from which it consists of 3 islands namely Tiga Island or known as Surivor Island, Sands Spit Island (Pulau Kalampunian Besar) and Snake Island (Pulau Kalampunian Damit). 

 

Tiga Island is just 10km off-shore on the West-Coast of Sabah, which is located in the district of Kuala Penyu. It is just 2.5 hours drive away from Kota Kinabalu city and 20 minutes boat ride from Kuala Penyu jetty.

There are two resorts located in Tiga Island which is Pulau Tiga Resort and Gaya Island Resort. Other facilities that provided in the island include a restaurant and camping site.

There are so many activities can be done in Tiga Island, tourist can enjoy the crystal clear water by swimming or snorkeling. Tourist may also want to try sea-kayaking around the island. Divers can explore the underwater treasures in Tiga Island. Besides that, Tiga Island also well-known for its therapeutic natural volcano mud. Tourist can have mud volcano bath which are good for your skin, or just have fun in the mud!

The main island, Pulau Tiga is the biggest island of Pulau Tiga Park. It is formed by eruption of several mud volcanoes hundred years ago. Tiga Island is relatively flat with the highest point reaching 100 meters only. It only took 6 hours to walk one round of the island.

The Snake Island (Pulau Kalampunian Damit) is just 20 minutes boat ride from Tiga Island. Snake Island is uninhabited island and it is just a tiny island with full of snakes. Therefore, while visiting Snake Island, tourist must be careful and watch their steps of all time. All the snakes in the island are fairly reclusive and non-aggressive. Snakebites rarely happen where it only happens when its being harassed.

Meanwhile, the Sands Spit Island (Pulau Kalampunian Besar) is a small island between Tiga Island and Snake Island. Sands Spit Island is just a sand bar that has long sandy beach stretches over a kilometer. Sands Spit Island is so pristine where the beach is covered nearly 100 percent by white sands, crystal clear water and shallow. Tourist that wishes to be away from the crowded beach can come to Sands Spit Island and enjoy the pleasant environment.
